Morgenland Festival Amsterdam

English version below

Rima Khcheich – zang, Tineke Postma – sopraan/altsax, Kinan Azmeh – klarinet, Bram van Sambeek – fagot, Jasser Haj Youssef -viola d’amore, Ahmad Al Khatib – ud, Tony Overwater -bas, Moslem Rahal – ney,  Bodek Janke- slagwerk.

Reality check of the music from the Near and Middle East

The new concert season starts with a few strong festivals: of course the ZomerJazzFietsTour in Groningen celebrates the 30th edition on Saturday, August 27th (!). In the 1st half of September two interesting festivals take place with music from other directions.
On 7 and 8 September World Music Forum NL celebrates its 10th anniversary with Dutch Delta Sounds. In Bimhuis and Paradiso North (Tolhuistuin) a tropical mix will be presented of adventurous music from all corners rooted in Dutch clay: Arabicana, latin, salsa, tango, kaseko, Ethio-pop, jazz crossovers, reggae, afrobeat and more exotica.

Immediately followed by the best musicians from the Near and Middle East playing at the Morgenland Festival Amsterdam from 14th to 18th September.
The motto here is that the actual situation calls for a reality check of the positive and negative clichés that the “Eastern culture” is associated with. The aim is to show the beauty and richness of the music from the Middle and Near East and make crossovers with music by Western culture. There are leading musicians from a wide geographic area. They bring a rich musical mix of traditional and classical to avant-garde, jazz and rock.
