Tin Men & The Telephone

The future is now!

Publieksparticipatie anno NU
Tony Roe – piano & electronics Pat Cleaver – bass Bobby Petrov – drums

ENGLISH

Why explain in words how interactively Tin Men & The Telephone goes about in its concerts, when you can get a clear picture watching this video below.
See how the audience with a special app controls the Trio & the Metropole Orchestra and sets new compositions and improvisations in motion!

The new album is called FURIE for a reason.
Making populism go away, that is what Tin Men would like to do. They make their own contribution by transforming statements from leaders like Trump, Erdogan and Kim Yong-un into music in a ridiculatory way. On this page also snippets of the new CD.
As in previous years, Tin Men make instant music from a text. Here, with the words of Donald Trump “Get Him Out” a composition is made, which forms the rhythm of the pronounced words. It’s an ubeat piece, in which pianist/inventor Tony Roe also plays a furious synthisizer solo!

Tin Men & The Telephone has been making name for about eight years with inventive use of video, live sampling and interactive technology.
Making the everyday special is the aim. YouTube videos are edited to make music from spoken word. Improvisation is an important element and Tin Men. The trio also creates instant text and music. By means of the app Tinmendo, which must be downloaded before the concert, the audience delivers building blocks for the music: self-made rhythms, melodies and chords form the basis for a collectively made composition on which Tin Men improvise. Public participation in it’s most updated form!
Tony Roe – piano & electronics Pat Cleaver – bass Bobby Petrov – drums

Roe is a keyboard player, but also an industrial designer and is interested in creating music from non-musical elements.
He often uses contemporary techniques with sampling, sound distortion and video. He seeks and finds new ways of improvisation by allowing moving images and other media to be fully interactive with music.
Tony Roe studied classical piano at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, jazz piano at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and music technology at the HKU. He also studied at the faculty of Industrial Design Engineering at TU Delft. In New York he attended lessons with spirit-related musicians Jason Moran, Jean-Michel Pilc and Ari Hoenig.
