In deze 1 Track Only twee nieuwe CD’s, die ieder op hun eigen manier handelen over ‘where you are in space and time’.

Life Theater, Franz von Chossy
Persoonlijk, helder & virtuoos

Tamara Lukasheva Quartet: Homebridge

Two new CDs in this blog, both in their own way about ‘where you are in space and time’. From pianist Franz von Chossy and singer Tamara Lukasheva. And again with more than just 1 Track 😉

Life Theater, Franz von Chossy
Personal, bright & virtuoso

Franz von Chossy is a pianist, who uses his virtuosity for bright music. Fortunately, he is not concerned with virtuosity alone. It is about the power and the story of the music.
In March of this year his new album Life Theater is released, on which he claims he has made a ‘soundtrack of life’. The nine pieces all represent a certain phase of life, from being a child to getting older. The compositions all have a personal background, just like the titles (Inner Child, Imaginary Friend, Fragile Glory, From Here on Out). For that reason, Van Chossy feels you should listen to the pieces in the album sequence.
With this he delivers a very personal album, on which all three musicians play intensely. Franz von Chossy’s and drummer Kristijan Krajncan’s playing is often pretty stuffed up, but remains transparent. Bassist Clemens van der Feen connects these two and keeps it nice and calm. Kristijan Krajncan also plays cello on this record.

Franz von Chossy grew up in Munich, where he started playing the piano at a young age and got to know classical music through his mother. His Ukrainian grandmother encouraged him to play folk music on accordion. At the Amsterdam Conservatory he studied jazz piano with a.o. Rob Madna and in New York he continued his studies with a.o. Kenny Barron and immersed himself in film composition. In addition to his own trio, he is part of the Pascal Schumacher Quartet and the Alex Simu Quintet. Tamara Lukasheva Quartet: Homebridge

Tamara Lukasheva is considered one of the best voices of German jazz. She has an agile expression that has been developing for more than 15 years.
Her music moves between strong melodies, Eastern European influences, dynamic improvisation and expressiveness.
Recently she released the album Homebridge with her quartet.
Characteristic of Lukasheva’s singing is the liveliness. That and her sometimes subtly playful music are rooted in her personal history. Before moving from Odessa to Cologne in 2010, she celebrated considerable success on stages in her former homeland. Born in 1988 as a daughter of professional musicians (mother classical pianist, father jazz saxophonist), she started her career at the age of 16. As a classically trained pianist and as a jazz singer she worked with renowned Ukrainian artists.

As various musical influences, Lukasheva mentions childhood memories of music and pop music from the Soviet era; strong melodies and phrasing; specially emphasized words and political subtext. Later on classical music and folk came into her life and thereafter extensive jazz studies.A close connection between text and music is important in the songs on Homebridge. It is not so much her personal feeling as the story that is told.
In three of the pieces she made music with profound poetry by Asja Klimanova. There’s a certain melancholy in the music.
Lukasheva sees her album Homebridge as “a bridge between the place where you are and the place where you come from. ‘Home’ is not the beginning or the end, but the bridge itself is Home”.
The debut album of this quartet Patchwork Of Time also received a lot of attention in the media. Tamara’s voice was praised, but so were her compositions.
In 2014, the quartet got the Junge Deutsche Jazzpreis Osnabrück. The following year the band won the second prize at the Keep an Eye Jazz Awards in Amsterdam, followed by the Neue Deutsche Jazz Preis in 2017.
Besides working with her own quartet she also works with trumpet player Matthias Schriefl and sings with the ensembles East Drive and Eurasians Unity and with the WDR Big Band.
