Tini Thomsen & MaxSax

Scroll down for English version

Nigel Hitchcock altsax, Tini Thomsen baritonsax, Tom Trapp gitaar, Mark Haanstra bas, Joost Kroon drums

ENGLISH

Tini Thomsen plays a voluminous and firm sounding baritone sax.
Her band MaxSax is not really into jazz, but plays energetic funk jazz and rock in a quintet with two saxes, baritone and alto.
‘I bring energy, not the complicated solo’, says Thomsen about her music.
But having said that, there is a jazz timing in the way she plays – and also in that of the other band members – and this provides a jazz-funk groove.
Her second album The Long Ride was released last year and the band is touring this spring in the Netherlands and Germany. 15-2 Bimhuis, 16-2 De Tor Enschede, 17-2 Paradox Tilburg, 18-2 Wind force Den Helder, 16-3 De Doelen
Nigel Hitchcock alto sax, Tini Thomsen baritone sax, Tom Trapp guitar, Mark Haanstra bass, Joost Kroon drums

The film “Some like it hot”, with Tony Curtis, triggered Tini Thomsen not only an adolescent love for film star Curtis, but also for the saxophone. She started with the tenor, but switched to the lower sound of the baritone sax at the age of 15. In 2003 she settled in Amsterdam, where she studied composition and bass clarinet alongside saxophone. She now lives in Germany again.

The Hamburg-born saxophonist played in all kinds of jazz bands and big bands and also with some famous pop stars: Metropole Orchestra, New Cool Collective Big Band, New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra and David Kweksilber Bigband and with Alain Clark, Waylon and Dr. John. Also among others with Brussels Jazz Orchestra, Shirma Rouse, Guus Meeuwis, Ellen ten Damme, Corrie van Binsbergen, Sven Hammond Soul, The four Baritones and Nora Fischer. She also played in multiple line ups in Germany.
