Onweerstaanbare ‘Ramon Valle-muziek’

Irresistible ‘Ramon Valle Music’

“Dutch musicians often have a rational set of mind. For example by asking during rehearsals “Ok, how are we doing this?”, while Cubans just start playing. Cuban musicians are very physically tuned. They do not think about it. You just play and when it’s wrong, just play again and again and again … until it’s okay! “
A quote from Ramon Valle, the pianist from Cuba, who lives and works in the Netherlands for 20 years now and celebrates this with a tour this fall.

Wherever he plays, Ramon Valle impresses critics and audiences with his expressive, virtuoso style. It’s not Latinjazz, it’s not Cuban music, it’s not jazz: Valle effortlessly plays a very personal combination of all those genres, resulting in an irresistible and energetic groovy ‘Ramon Valle music’.

Ramón Valle grew up in Havana, Cuba. His love for jazz he could only express by improvising secretly, while taking a classical music education. He was already a sensation in Cuba when he emigrated to The Netherlands in 1997. He came over here because he wantee to be closer to the adventurous European jazz world, as a player and listener. And with success: his open, virtuoso style of playing amazed everyone. Valle played at prestigious festivals like London Jazz, North Sea Jazz, Havana Jazz and Montreux Jazz.

“The greatest talent among our young pianists,” said Grammy winner Chucho Valdés about Ramón Valle. And with ‘us’ he meant Cuba.

According to Valle, the Cubans are spontaneous with music. It is about feeling, listening and developing. Europeans think about it and talk more about it. With this, Valle does not want to say it’s better than the other. It’s just different and he has also learned a lot of Dutch musicians. Particularly in his collaborations with various Dutch jazz groups, such as Jesse van Ruller and the Metropole Orchestra. “It may also be good to approach, analyze and then rationalize things,” says Ramón, “and nowadays, I also try to work from ideas and translate it into the body.” At the question of what he means, he says : “In music and actually everything is finally going to let go of the ego and then experience what’s there.”

Ramón Valle celebrates his jubilee with a tour of the Netherlands, playing with his trio, his quintet, solo or with Orlando Valle, or with Eric Vloeimans
