De duitse trombonist Nils Wogram (1972) is zo’n musicus waar je jaloers op kunt zijn:
hij kan àlles spelen op zijn trombone; beheerst alle stijlen; componeert complexe muziek (jazz maar ook hedendaags gecomponeerd) en leidt verschillende ensembles.
Vrijdag 11 oktober staat hij in Paradox (Tilburg) met trio Nostalgia, met Arno Krijger op Hammond B3 en Dejan Terzic op drums. Ook zaterdag 12 oktober Bimhuis (Amsterdam) en zaterdag 19 oktober in LantarenVenster (Rotterdam). Zie onder voor vier video”s.
Wogram speelt en componeert in alle stijlen, met een voorkeur voor hedendaags gestructureerd. Maar met dit trio wordt ook met overtuiging gefunkt. Arno Krijger speelt de baslijnen met zijn voetpedalen en drummer Dejan Terzic zorgt voor daadkrachtige jazz – en funkritmes.
De stukken en themaas zijn af en toe complex, maar groovy. Hij zelf speelt de sterren van de hemel op zijn trombone – moeiteloos, zo lijkt het. Alle drie de musici spelen ontzettend en intens. Niet alleen de heavy, catchy stukken zijn strak en ‘lekker’; ook de zachtere ballads zijn prachtig. Wogram laat daarin haast nóg beter horen hoe goed en mooi hij trombone speelt.
Waarom dit trio Nostalgia heet, blijft eigenlijk een raadsel…..
Nils Wogram speelt solo-concerten; speelt met en componeert voor de NRD Big Band, en heeft verder o.a. een duo met klavierleeuw Simon Nabatov; een trombone quartet; zijn eigen Septet; en quartet Root 70 (microtonale neobop met 4 musici die geboren werden in de jaren 70). Hij won meerdere prijzen.

Nèt bekend is, dat Wogram in eigen land de Albert Mangelsdorff Prijs 2013 toegekend heeft gekregen. De prijs is te vergelijken met de Boy Edgar Prijs. Wogram krijgt de award uitgereikt tijdens het Berlijnse Jazzfest, op 3 november. Uit het juryrapport: “Nils Wogram is een technisch briljante muzikant met een eigen geluid. Diep geworteld in de jazzgeschiedenis, weet hij traditie en innovatie te combineren en de vele facetten van de jazz een modern geluid te geven. Niet afgeschrikt door modetrends zet hij hoog in op intensieve en doorlopende samenwerking met zijn ensembles, waarbij hij zichzelf en zijn muzikale metgezellen ruimte weet te geven voor ontwikkeling.”

The German trombone player Nils Wogram (1972 ) is a musician where you can be jealous : he is able to play anything on his trombone; masters all styles; composes complex music jazz as well as contemporary composed and leads various ensembles .
Friday October 11 he plays in Paradox (Tilburg) with trio Nostalgia, with Arno Krijger on Hammond B3 and Dejan Terzic on drums. Also Saturday, October 12th Bimhuis (Amsterdam) and Saturday, October 19th in LantarenVenster (Rotterdam).
Wogram plays and composes in all styles, with a preference for contemporary structured. But this trio is also convincingly funky.
Arno Krijger plays the bass lines with his foot pedals and drummer Dejan Terzic creates energetic funk rhythms and percussion .
The pieces are occasionally complex, but groovy. Wogram himself plays fantastic on his trombone – effortlessly, it seems .
All three musicians play very good and intense. The heavy, catchy pieces are tight and ‘nice’, but also the softer ballads are beautiful. There it’s even more obvious how well and beautiful he plays the trombone.
Why this trio is called Nostalgia , actually remains a mystery …..

It has just become known that Wogram will recieve the Albert Mangelsdorff Award 2013 in his own country. The award is comparable to the Boy Edgar Award.
