In 2012 richtte saxofonist Floris van der Vlugt Windkracht 7 op, een septet met jonge musici. Vier behoorlijk virtuoze en energieke blazers, en een dynamische en zo nu en dan rauwe ritmesektie van gitaar, bas en drums spelen composities van Van der Vlugt en andere bandleden.
Morris Kliphuis (hoorn), Robbert Scherpenisse (trompet), Jamie Peet (drums), Katharina Thomsen (baritonsaxofoon, basclarinet), Floris van der Vlugt (tenor- en sopraansax), Reinier Baas (gitaar) en Mark Haanstra (bas).
Hij stond met zijn septet in 2013 al op North Sea Jazz, nu komt het debuut-album uit. Direct daarna barst de Young Vips tour los.
Elk jaar kiezen programmeurs van de 25 beste jazz clubs van Nederland de meest veelbelovende talenten uit, die ook hun eigen muziek componeren: Young Vips. Dit jaar zijn dat saxofonist Floris van der Vlugt met Windkracht 7 en pianist Miguel Rodríguez. Beide muzikanten touren vanaf begin februari door Nederland met hun eigen composities.

In 2007 studeerde Floris van der Vlugt af aan het Amsterdams Conservatorium. Sindsdien werkt hij met o.a. Felix Schlarmann Group (die ook net een CD uitbracht), Vinnies Vibes, Kris Berry, Amsterdam Jazz Orchestra, Room Eleven.

The music is energetic, dynamic and expressive. The style: Jazz-pop-rock-improv adventure. In 2012, saxophonist Floris van der Vlugt founded ‘Windkracht 7’ , a septet with young musicians . Four quite virtuosic and energetic horns, and a dynamic and occasionally raw rhythm section of guitar, bass and drums playing compositions by Van der Vlugt and other band members. Morris Kliphuis (french horn) , Robbert Scherpenisse (trumpet), Jamie Peet (drums), Katharina Thomsen (baritone saxophone, bass clarinet), Floris van der Vlugt (tenor and soprano sax) Reinier Baas (guitar) and Mark Haanstra (bass) .
The septet performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 2013; just now the debut album is released. Immediately afterwards they will be playing the Young VIPs tour.
Every year programmers of the 25 best jazz clubs in the Netherlands pick the most promising talents, who also compose their own music: Young Vips. This year these are saxophonist Floris van der Vlugt with Windkracht 7 (blog about him next week) and pianist Miguel Rodríguez. Both musicians previously worked with many great musicians and they will be touring throughout the country with their own compositions.
