Tenorsaxofonist en bandleider Jasper Blom combineert akoestische jazz met elektronica.
Hij is een toonaangevend tenor- en sopraansaxofonist binnen de jongere Nederlandse jazzgeneratie en een van de meest veelzijdige instrumentalisten in de jazzscene. Blom maakt intelligente composities die in stijl variëren van akoustische hardbop tot geïmproviseerde soundscapes en electronische jazz.
Begin dit jaar verscheen Audacity, het vierde album van het Jasper Blom Quartet, dat nog steeds bestaat uit dezelfde 4 internationaal bekende Nederlandse jazzmusici die al meer dan 20 jaar samen spelen.
De composities van Jasper Blom zijn -zoals steeds- doordacht en toegankelijk. Opvallend is zijn tenorsaxgeluid – dat nogal eens wordt vervormd met elektronische effecten. De muziek is een amalgaam van jazz, rock, electronica, oosterse invloeden, blues, bossa nova. Er staan twee vocale stukken op ‘Audacity’. In ‘Circulaçao’ rapt de Braziliaanse zangeres Lilian Vieira (Zuco 103) over de verkeersopstoppingen in Rio de Janeiro. In ‘Come Round’ horen we zanger Ruben Hein.
Het Jasper Blom Quartet is in feite een all-star band die altijd wil vernieuwen en het avontuur niet schuwt. Voor liefhebbers van frisse, toegankelijke jazz met een twist.

Jasper Blom (1965) studeerde o.a. met Dave Liebman, Bob Brookmeyer, Herb Geller en Joe Lovano en trad op met Lee Konitz, Chet Baker, Nat Adderley, Bob Brookmeyer, George Duke, Randy Crawford, David Liebman, Conrad Herwig en vele andere gerenommeerde artiesten. In Nederland vinden we hem oa terug in de David Kweksilber Big Band; Identikit (van gitarist Marzio Scholten); met rietblazer Joris Roelofs samen leidt hij Ensemble à l’ Improviste, gewijd aan franse impressionistische muziek (Debussy).Tweemaal won hij de European Jazz Award en hij speelde op grote jazzfestivals en in clubs over de hele wereld.

Tenor saxophonist and bandleader Jasper Blom combines acoustic jazz with electronics. He is a leading tenor and soprano saxophonist in the younger Dutch jazz generation and one of the most versatile instrumentalists in jazz scene. Blom makes intelligent compositions that range in style from acoustic hard bop to improvised soundscapes and electronic jazz.
Earlier this year Audacity was released, the fourth album from the Jasper Blom Quartet, that still consists of the same four internationally renowned Dutch jazz musicians playing together for over 20 years.
The compositions of Jasper Blom are well thought trough and accessible, as they always are. His tenorsaxsound is remarkable – it‘s often distorted by electronic effects. The music is an amalgam of jazz, rock, electronica, oriental influences, blues, bossa nova. There are two vocal parts on Audacity. In ‘Circulaçao’ Brazilian singer Lilian Vieira (Zuco 103) raps on traffic congestion in Rio de Janeiro. In ‘Come Round’ we hear singer Ruben Hein.
The Jasper Blom Quartet is basically an all-star band that always wants to renew and not shying away from adventure. For lovers of fresh, accessible jazz with a twist.

In the Netherlands we find him ao in the David Kweksilber Big Band; Identikit (guitarist Marzio Scholten); together with ree player Joris Roelofs he co-leads Ensemble à l’Improviste, dedicated to French impressionist music (Debussy) .Twice he won the European Jazz Award (!) and he played at great jazz festivals and clubs all over the world.
