Mehmet Polat Trio

Scroll down for English version

Mehmet Polat Trio
For Mehmet Polat the ud is more than the instrument to play beautiful traditional music, he also adds something to it. Literally and figuratively: he enlarged the range of the ud by adding two bass strings and developed a new technique for the left hand. With that he explores and combines different musical styles from around the world.

A new album Ask Your Heart is being released this month. His trio plays traditional instruments, but  makes new music, because the compositions are colored by daring improvisations and grooves. Past and present meet each other in music that is rooted in Ottoman, Anatolian, Balkan and West African cultures. In his trio he plays with Dymphi Peeters on the African string instrument kora, and Sinan Arat on ney, flute from the Persian, Turkish and Arabic music.
