Maartje Meijer

Elegante en jazzy eigen songs

CD Virgo, Songs & Instrumentals (C-String records)

De teksten zijn soms melancholisch (Quiet Now), liefdevol (A Rainbow in the Dark en Everybody’s Boy and My Own), soms licht (I Just Wanna Eat).

New Amsterdam Voices werd opgericht in 2011.

The music is jazzy, with here and there also some rock and pop. For example, in Quiet Now, where Jesse van Ruller gives a fine country rock guitarsolo .

The CD was developed with Crowdfunding via Voordekunst. Meijer herself wrote about that :
” It will be a cool album, on which my classical background, but also rock and pop influences can be heard. Musically I was formed by classical composers such as Bach and Brahms  but also by pop musicians like Randy Newman , The Beatles , Sufjan Stevens and jazz musicians like Brad Mehldau , Chano Dominguez , Ella Fitzgerald , Tierney Sutton and so on . All these influences have shaped my musical personality .
On 27 October 2013 the CD will be presented at the Bimhuis in Amsterdam .
