Martin Fondse

Ze werden daarvoor onderscheiden: in Brazilië won de DVD/CD The Bridge ‘Live at Bimhuis’ 2 Prémios MPB! In de categorieën Best Album’ and ‘Best Singer’ (Lenine).

What strikes the most about Martin Fondse is his enormous versatility.
He does not fit in a single box, but the jury of the Buma Boy Edgar Prize 2017 praises him for that very reason. ‘He’s an omnivorous musical mind’ is said somewhere in the jury report. This is not only expressed in the blurring of boundaries between classical music, jazz, latin and world music, but also in the fact that he combines composing and arranging with playing.
He writes ‘not for instruments, but for musicians’. It is a personal approach, in which Fondse gives his musicians often enough space to fill in music themselves.

On December 6 he will receive the Buma Boy Edgar Award 2017 in the Bimhuis. That evening he presents 12 fellow musicians and 1 writer: Kees van Kooten. In addition, the well-known Brazilian singer-songwriter Lenine will give a guest performance. The other musicians are Claudio Puntin, Eric Vloeimans, Dirk Peter Kölsch, Eric van der Westen, Mete Erker, Morris Kliphuis, Remy van Kesteren, Sanne Rambags, Anna Serierse, Jörg Brinkmann, Annie Tangberg.

Especially for his Buma Boy Edgar Prize Tour in 2018, Martin Fondse is composing a new suite ‘Card Games’. On December 6 music from that suite is played for the first time: the piece Hearts. (Other parts Diamonds, Clubs and Spades will follow later). From this great configuration of musicians, several duos, trios and other ensembles are formed during the concert. The other orchestra members will then remain on stage. Martin sees this as comparable with the choir in the Greek tragedy, where the choir has both the function of sympathetic spectator and moralistic commentator. The choir or the musicians may act, color or intervene as they see fit.
