Because of this a blog about Jasper from 2016 has been published here once more.

Pianist/keyboard player Jasper van ’t Hof has been active with his own music for 50 years now. He has an impressive oeuvre in which free jazz, rock, jazz, electronica, world music and church organs all play a significant role.

Now he founded a new quartet. All Dutch this time, with four generations: the young drummer Jamie Peet, bassist Stefan Lievestro, ‘veteran’ saxophonist Dick de Graaf and Jasper itself.
This month the album No Hard Shoulder is released, with varied acoustic pieces, all written by Van t Hof. His personal signature can be heard: groovy, exuberant, serene, lyrical; all the musicians playing intense.

Jasper van t Hof became known with free jazz rock band ‘Association P.C.’, formed in 1969 with drummer Pierre Courbois and the German guitarist Toto Blanke. The group had a lot of success, mostly in Germany. Also Pork Pie (from 1973) was a renowned band with Charlie Mariano on alto saxophone and Philip Catherine on guitar. Thereafter, the Afro-European group PILI-PILI (from 1984) came up.
Van ’t Hof became proficient at the Fender Rhodes electric piano, on which he developed a completely new sound. He threw himself, as it were, into expressive and exuberant solos and played on more and more new synthesizers.
Following groups ASSOCIATION P.C. and PORK PIE, the Afro-European music of PILI-PILI also became a real success, especially in the dance and pop scene. Among others African singer Angélique Kidjo, trumpeter Eric Vloeimans and saxophonist Tineke Postma have played in it.
