Rembrandt Frerichs

Concerten: 7-2 Concertgebouw (Koorzaal), Amsterdam
8-2 LantarenVenster, Rotterdam

ENGISH VERSION
CD A Long Story Short – Rembrandt Frerichs Trio

His motto: ‘One Size Fits Nobody’
rembrandt frerichsRembrandt Frerichs draws from European classical music and Arabic music.
A Long Story Short is the second album by this trio, containing 12 new pieces by Frerichs, in which jazz, Eastern and Western classical music complement each other perfectly. Using nice irregular rtyhms, Bach corals, and there is an original mini harmonium (1850) used as an Indian harmonium. Tony Overwater makes extensive use of the bow on his bass.

Frerichs knows the American jazz repertoire, but wants to avoid the jazzcliché’s.
And so he plays jazz and improvising on the fortepiano, (forerunner of the modern grand piano). Also he uses motifs and structures of Johann Sebastian Bach.
A while back there was his Levantasy project: “East-West intercultural adventures in music’ with Kepera trio & oboist Yoram Lachish. Formed from a common interest in music from the Middle East. Rembrandt Frerichs lived a few years in Egypt (Cairo), Tony Overwater played with many musicians from the Middle East (including Lebanon) and Vinsent Planjer plays the Persian drum tombak. But they are also jazz musicians, so there is the ‘ jazz attitude’ in the music by using improvisation and freedom in musical forms.
