Vertigo trombone quartet

Bernhard Bamert – Trio Tré; Zurich Jazz Orchestra; Swiss Jazz Orchestra, Luzern Jazz Orchestra e.a. http://www.tremusic.ch/de/band.php
Jan Steiner – bastrombone: Berlin Art Orchestra; Luzern Jazz Orchestra; wetkte verder met oa Bob Brookmeyer,  Jim Black, Bob Minzer, Frank Möbus, Alexander v.

Met Root 70, Nostalgia Trio, Wogram-Nabatov Duo and Nils Wogram Septet. Ook interviews met veel van de musici.

Imaginative and concentrated trombone-music between jazz and classical music

A trombone is not  very easy to maneuvre; trombonists always have to deal with a certain inertia that is in the nature of the wind instrument. The Vertigo Trombone Quartetis able to  ‘overcome’ that, it sometimes resembles a (agile) stringquartet. Contemporary melodies, rhythmic precision, technical virtuosity, tight interplay, concentration and ingenuity in the improvisations.
Vertigo trombone 4Nils Wogram, Bernhard Bamert, Andreas Tschopp and Jan Schreiner are a collective of four super creative trombonists from the German and the Swiss scene. The ensemble crosses stylistic boundaries between jazz, classical and free improvisation and only play their own work .
This month, their debut CD is released “Developing Good Habits ” (nWog Records). Nils Wogram occasionally also plays melodica, and there is one piece in which 3 players clap the rhythm, while the 4th plays a solo over it .
In acoustical interplay, they succeed in suggesting electronic effects, in synchronizing the fire of a rhythm section and exploiting the possibilities of the trombone – the special air effects, via mutes to beat boxing.
Nils Wogram knows every trick in the trombone book. He started thids quartet. “There are a few trombone quartets already, but rarely with an artistic vision of any kind. An exception was, many years ago, the project Slide Ride with four individualists (with ao Ray Anderson) With us, the individualism is, perhaps, not that distinctive, we are more interested in a real ensemble sound”, he says.

In the video there’s music, but also explanation. The four trombonists explain how they work and why the trombone such a great instrument! And you hear their snorting breath
