CD Solo Flutes van Mark Alban Lotz (loplop records)
Raspen, ploppen, kirren, zingen op de hele fluitfamilie
Fluitist Mark Alban Lotz speelt zo’n beetje alle fluiten die er zijn: Piccolo, C Fluit, Alt Fluit, basfluit, PVC Contrabas Fluit, Indiase Bamboe Fluiten, Fluitofoon, geprepareerde fluit.
Hij heeft veel eigen bands en projecten (zie onder), maar speelt ook vaak solo. Nu net kwam zijn solo Cd uit, waarop 17 tracks staan met hedendaagse improvisaties en composities waarin de complete fluit-familie meedoet: van heel hoog tot heel laag. Lotz maakt klanklandschappen, jazzy riffs, ritmes. Regelmatig hoor je hem tijdens het fluitspelen ook met zijn stem mee zingen, praten, kirren, fluiten of raspen. Alle stukken zijn ‘gewoon live gespeeld’, dat wil zeggen zonder gebruik te maken van overdubs, loops of soundprocessing.
Lotz speelt al vele jaren jazz, afrikaanse en cubaanse muziek, klanklandschappen, groove, vrije impro. Hij probeert in zijn eigen muziek steeds een brug te slaan tussen jazz en hedendaagse muziek, waarbij hij vele malen ook muziek uit andere landen en culturen mengt. Van Lotz 2 video’s, omdat ze beiden heel kort zijn.

Van de franse saxofonist Matthieu Donarier en pianist Albert van Veenendaal’s Planetarium. Thema’s en improvisaties op sax en geprepareerde piano met een licht dromerig, subtiel en enigszins lyrisch karakter.
Twee innovatieve en creatieve musici, altijd op zoek naar nieuwe manieren van om muziek te maken ontdekten bij een eerdere samenwerking dat ze dezelfde taal spreken. Hun ideeën en ook hun timing bleken naadloos op elkaar aan te sluiten. Vanaf 2010 vormen ze en duo.
Pianist Albert van Veenendaal noemt zichzelf ook wel ‘beeldend musicus’, vanwege het epische en filmische karakter van zijn muziek. Improvisatie en compositie gaan bij hem naadloos in elkaar over. Hij speelt ook solo-concerten met geprepareerde piano.
Over de geprepareerde piano:
Door voorwerpen, zoals rubbertjes, wasknijpers, schroeven, papier of tape tussen de snaren te steken of op de snaren van de vleugel te leggen wordt de klankkleur van de piano wezenlijk anders. Het instrument wordt hierdoor als het ware een eenpersoons-slagwerkensemble met een grote variatie aan klanken en leent zich uitstekend voor (bijvoorbeeld) percussieve muziek. Maar ook dromerige en lyrische composities en improvisaties komen goed uit de verf. Pionier van de geprepareerde piano was de Amerikaanse componist John Cage die een groot aantal stukken voor het instrument heeft geschreven. In de afgelopen jaren heeft Albert van Veenendaal zich verschillende speelwijzen eigen gemaakt en technieken ontwikkeld, die hij toepast in composities en improvisaties.

Soundtrack van een imaginaire film
OrphiCube is een orkest van de franse saxofonist Alban Darche met zes vaste muzikanten, regelmatig aangevuld met anderen. De titel van de cd betekent Directe Waarneming, en daarmee bedoelt Darche dat we de muziek ter plekke moeten beleven als de soundtrack van een imaginaire film.
Gekke muziek af en toe: In Abecedaire zingen de musici een soort hedendaagse mars. De tekst bestaat uit de letters van het alfabet. Paso Doble is een rare combi van jazz met spaanse amusementstango.

Alban Darche is een vrije geest in de muziek en heeft al veel werk op zijn naam staan. Hij is o.a. bekend van big band Le Gros Cube, zijn eigen trio en speelde in het Orchestre National de Jazz en ook met musici uit de vrije impro zoals saxofonist Tim Berne en slagwerker John Hollenbeck.

Viool goes with the flow
De Zwitserse violist Tobias Preisig maakte een CD waarop – de titel suggereert het al – de muziek al zoekende tot stand komt. Go with the flow – zoiets. Resultaat is enigszins abstracte, minimale muziek in een bezetting van viool, piano, bas en slagwerk. Met hier en daar ook electronische effecten en flink wat galm. Ook van deze cd 2 video’s, omdat ze beiden heel kort zijn.
Mede geïnspireerd door de manier van werken die het Wayne Shorter Quartet ook heeft gehad: muziek maken vanuit vrijheid, en zonder afspraken.
Tobias Preisig studeerde zowel klassiek als lichte muziek in Bern en in New York. Vorig jaar viel hij op bij de internationale jazzbeurs in Bremen (Jazzahead), waar hij een soort alternatieve jazzrock liet horen.

Speak, flute, squeak, growl with the complete flute-family
Fluteplayer Mark Alban Lotz plays almost all possible flutes on earth: Piccolo, C Flute, Alto Flute, Bass Flute, PVC Contra Bass Flute, Indian Bamboo Flutes, Flötophon, Prepared Flute. He has a lot of own groups and projects, but plays solo as well. Just now his solo cd was released:17 tracks of Solo Flutes with compositions and improvisations in contemporary music. Featuring the whole family of flutes: from hight to very low. Lotz makes soundscapes, jazzy riffs, rhytms.
You can hear him sing, talk, flute, squeak or growl while playing the flute as well. The compositions and improvisations are played in one go, live. No use of overdubs, loops or sound processing.
Mark’s music ranges from jazz to African, Cuban, free improvisation, grooves. He allways try to build a bridge between jazz and classical contemporary music – often crossing boundaries with other musics of the world.

Two innovative and creative musicians, always looking for new ways to make music discovered at an earlier collaboration that they speak the same language. Their ideas and their timing proved to connect the two together seamlessly. From 2010 they are and duo.
Pianist Albert van Veenendaal refers to himself as “visual musician” because of the epic and cinematic character of his music. Improvisation and composition go with him seamlessly . He also plays solo concerts with prepared piano .
On the prepared piano :
by putting objects such as rubber covers, clothes pegs, screws, paper or tape between the strings or on the strings of the piano, the timbre of the piano changes essentially. The instrument is as it were a single percussion ensemble with a wide variety of sounds and lends itself to a kind of percussive music. Pioneer of the prepared piano was the American composer John Cage who wrote a large number of pieces for the instrument.

Soundtrack to an imaginary movie
OrphiCube is an orchestra of the French saxophonist Alban Darche with six regular musicians, regularly supplemented by others. The title of the CD means Direct Observation, and Darche means that we should feel the music as the soundtrack to an imaginary film. Funny music sometimes : in Abécédaire the musicians sing a kind of contemporary march. The text consists of the letters of the alphabet. Paso Doble is a strange combination of jazz with Spanish tango.

Alban Darche is a free spirit in music and has a lot of work to his name. He is well known for big band Le Gros Cube, his own trio and played in the Orchestre National de Jazz and also with free improvising musicians like saxophonist Tim Berne and drummer John Hollenbeck .

Violin goes with the flow.
The Swiss violinist Tobias Preisig made a CD which – as the title suggests – the music is created on the spot. Go with the flow – something like that. 
Result is somewhat abstract, minimal music in an occupation of violin, piano, bass and percussion. With here and there electronic effects and a lot of reverb. Partly inspired by the Wayne Shorter Quartet, that has been making music with freedom and without fixed arrangements. Tobias Preisig studied both classical and light music in Bern and in New York. Last year, he was conspiciously present on the international jazz fair in Bremen (Jazzahead), where he was making a kind of alternative jazz rock .
