Of – zoals de Japanse saxofonist Genzo Okabe op zijn eigen website zegt:”…(I also studied in) the Netherlands, which is considered to be one of Europe’s leading countries in regards to arts and culture…. “.

Dutch Jazz Competition. Xavi Torres – piano, Vic Moliner – bas en Joan Terol – drums.

Okabe Family
Saxofonist Genzo Okabe is geboren in Tokio, Japan.

Eerdere Young VIPs waren o.a.

Genzo Okabe with his Ogabe Family and Torres with his Xavi Torres Trio.

Nice about the Young Vips is, the winning musicians also have to compose themselves, and play their own work. So not only are they good and interesting on their instruments, but they also have to add something to the jazz and improv repertoire.
Many foreign musicians-to-be t at conservatories in the Netherlands. This is possible, of course, because of the open borders in Europe ……. And the Dutch courses are seen as good and interesting! Or – as the Japanese saxophonist Genzo Okabe puts it on its website: “… (I also studied in) The Netherlands, which is considered to be one of Europe’s leading countries in regards to arts and culture …”.
The two musicians who carry the title Young VIP this year, graduated a few years ago at the conservatories of Amsterdam and The Hague. They continue to live in the Netherlands and already have a lot to their credit.

The Young VIPs tour celebrates its 20th anniversary. Since 1997, young jazz talents are allowed on tour in the Netherlands to gain experience and to play themselves in the spotlight. The series Young VIPS in recent years is impressive.
