Melodieuze kamerjazz & groove
‘Moeilijk’ is de muziek van Estafest niet, maar vanzelfsprekend evenmin.
Er wordt gelaveerd tussen improvisatie en compositie, tussen melodieus en abstract, tussen individueel en collectief. Estafest beweegt zich op een paar snijvlakken en is daar erg goed in.
Geen bas, geen drums in dit kwartet, maar veel snaren en 1 blaasinstrument. In hun (eigen) composities en improvisaties spelen de musici dan ook verschillende rollen.
Estafest wil op het podium een ‘flow van het moment’ creëren waarin zowel het publiek als de musici meegaan. Het resultaat is cutting edge muziek, met humor, avontuurlijk, en soms adembenemend.
Deze maand komt 2e CD uitgebracht “Eno Supo‘ en dat gaat gepaard met een aantal concerten.
19-4 Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, 23-4 Bimhuis Amsterdam, 18-5 Serah Artisan Zaandam. De tour gaat verder in het najaar.
Alle vier de musici zijn toonaangevend in de Nederlandse jazz & improscene.
Anton Goudsmit maakte naam met New Cool Collective en zijn eigen Ploctones.
Oene van Geel speelt bij Zapp String Quartet, The Nordanians en OOOO.
Mete Erker is lid van het Artvark Saxophone Quartet en speelt verder o.a. met zijn eigen trio en in The Bridge: Martin Fondse Orchestra met de Braziliaanse superstaer Lenine.
Jeroen van Vliet speelt met eigen trio’s, w.o. OGU (met Bram Stadhouders), met vocaliste Simin Tander en in Eric Vloeimans’ Gatecrash en Kytecrash.
Zowel Goudsmit als Van Geel wonnen eerder de VPRO/Boy Edgarprijs. Goudsmit kreeg in hetzelfde jaar nog een prijs: de Duiveltje prijs voor de beste popgitarist van Nederland!

The music of Estafest is not complex, but obvious it is neither .
It is tacked between improvisation and composition, between melodic and abstract, between individual and collective . Estafest is performing on several intersectios and is very good at it.
No bass, no drums in this quartet, but a lot of strings and one wind instrument. In their (own) compositions and improvisations the musicians also play different roles.
Estafest wants to create on stage a “flow of the moment” in which both the audience and the musicians go along. The result is cutting edge music, with humor, adventure, and is sometimes breathtaking

All four musicians are leading in the Dutch jazz and improv scene.

Both Goudsmit and Van Geel previously won the VPRO/Boy Edgar Prize. Goudsmit in the same year won another price: the ‘Little Devil’ award for best Dutch popguitarist!
