Joshua Redman James Farm

James Farm bestaat sinds 2009.

ENGLISH
Joshua Redman is a real tenor-hero. The American saxophonist plays in the Netherlands with his all-star band James Farm this week.
James Farm is a solid band, where it’s not about egos and solos, but all about the band feel. The quartet combines the instrumentation of a traditional acoustic jazz quartet with a progressive attitude and modern sound. Their music that is rhythmically and technically complex; while rich in harmony and melody, and with the right dose of emotions. Whether it’s jazz, pop or rock, the musicians share a fascination for song structure, groove and contemporary influences. Jazz is a living language, according to Joshua Redman, and with this view he navigates effortlessly between his own compositions, standards, pop and rock covers and even classical music.
The most recent City Folk album includes compositions by all four band members.

James Farm is an equivalent collective. Each member has an equal voice in the musical direction of the band and in the choice of music. The four band members are all distinctive musicians, each with a unique perspective on music and a strong musical personality.
In 2011 Nonesuch label released the first album, titled James Farm. The most recent album City Folk came out in October 2014.

James Farm came into life in 2009. Since last year, Redman has also joined up with piano trio The Bad Plus. There, too, not the trio-with-guest soloist idea, but a full collective.
Joshua Redman already is a great tenor saxophonist, and in combination with the nonconformist BadPlus music Redman even grows better!

Joshua-RedmanJoshua Redman is the son of saxophonist Dewey Redman. He is originally from California.
He first graduated from Harvard as a sociologist, but meanwhile he also became a musician, with a big heart for jazz. In the same year in which he graduated (in 1991) he won the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition, after which he focused completely on his music career. He became one of the most prominent representatives of the neo-bop jazz.
When he moved to New York, he was quickly absorbed into the jazz scene there – playing with leading musicians of his generation such as Peter Bernstein, Larry Goldings, Kevin Hays, Roy Hargrove and Mark Turner.
He then played with anyone who matters in the contemporary jazz, from Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, John Scofield and Roy Hargrove to Brad Mehldau, Toot Thielemans, Kurt Rosenwinkel and The Bad Plus (and everyone in between)
In 1994 he founded his own quartet, with bandmates pianist Brad Mehldau, bassist Christian McBride and drummer Brian Blade. All four musicians grew to band leaders and rank among the top in contemporary jazz with their own ensembles.
In 2002 he formed The Elastic Band, a flexible electric groovy trio with keyboardist Sam Yahel and drummer Brian Blade, later on Jeff Ballard.
