Avantgarde meets Toegankelijk; met nu-jazz, experimentele rock en electronica
De grote en beroemde Noorse experimentele nujazz/rockband Jaga Jazzist speelt deze maand twee keer in Nederland en 1 keer in België.
Jaga’s musici zijn betrokken bij veel projecten en diverse muziekstijlen; alle bandleden zijn multi-instrumentalisten. Dat maakt de band uniek. Zonder zichzelf beperkingen op te leggen en met al die instrumenten creëert de band melodische, hypnotiserende nujazz en experimentele rock (met electronica)

Er zijn veel vergelijkingen gemaakt over Jaga Jazzist en hun muziek; je hoort er met regelmaat Soft Machine, Frank Zappa, Aphex Twin en/of Squarepusher in terug. Toch blijven ze zichzelf. “Avantgarde meets Toegankelijk”
Jaga Jazzist heeft er al zes albums en bijna twintig jaar van continu optreden opzitten. Vorig jaar trad Jaga Jazzist op met een symfonisch orkest ter promotie van hun album Live With Britten Sinfonia (2013)
Kern van de band zijn de broers en belangrijkste songwriters, Lars en Martin Horntveth. Martin formeerde Jaga Jazzist samen met Ivar Christian Johansen in 1994. Ze waren toen nog teenagers; Johansen verliet later de groep. De broers zijn ook prominente figuren van de Noorse pop act The National Bank. In het begin iets maakten ze speelse, humoristische jazz met ene beetje rap.
Het album ‘A Livingroom Hush’ werd uitgebracht in 2001 en bevat een melodieuze en energieke mix van lounge jazz, filmische thema’s en instrumentale rock.
In 2002 won de band de BBC Best Jazz Album of the Year Award. Kort daarna werd de cd The Stix (Ninja Tune) door diverse media tot album van het jaar verkozen. Dit resulteerde in een jarenlange reeks uitverkochte shows in clubs door Europa, gevolgd door lovende kritieken op de diverse jazz- en rockfestivals waaronder North Sea Jazz.

Jaga Jazzist: nujazz, experimental rock, electronics
The great and famous Norwegian experimental nujazz/rock band Jaga Jazzist will play twice this month in the Netherlands and once in Belgium.
Jaga’s musicians are involved in many projects and various musical styles and that makes the band unique. All band members are multi-instrumentalists. Without self-imposed restrictions and with all those instruments the band creates melodic, hypnotic nujazz and experimental rock (with electronics). Many comparisons have been made about Jaga Jazzist and their music; you can hear Soft Machine, Frank Zappa, Aphex Twin and/or Squarepusher in it regularly. Yet they remain themselves. “Avant garde meets accessible”
Jaga Jazzist did six albums and nearly twenty years of continuous performing. Last year, Jaga Jazzist performed with a symphony orchestra to promote their album Live With Britten Sinfonia (2013)

The core of the band are brothers and main songwriters Lars and Martin Horntveth. Martin formed Jaga Jazzist together with Ivar Christian Johansen in 1994. This resulted in a long series of sold out shows in clubs throughout Europe, followed by critical acclaim at various jazz and rock festivals including North Sea Jazz.
